Think About Changing Habits – Not End Goals:
New Year’s Resolutions shouldn’t be end goals, like losing 20 pounds. They should be habit goals, like “I will go down in the basement and do 30 minutes of yoga, 3 times a week” instead of “I will get fit.” This is good advice and I was leaning this way so now I feel affirmed!
Start Small:
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Don’t promise yourself that you will exercise 5 days a week when 2 days a week is probably way more realistic. Also very good advice. I have a feeling what I put down in writing will not be what I have in my head. The print copy will be the low end but somehow I will feel disappointed if I don’t meet the higher threshold in my head. But I need to get over it!
Don’t Replace Something with Nothing:
Instead of eating less, try eating healthier. This is a good one for me too. I am a Diet Pepsi addict. So instead of trying to quit drinking Diet Pepsi cold turkey, I think my goal might be to drink more water during the day. Shouldn’t be hard. I don’t drink any now..
Plan to Fail:
Interesting. Visualize success but think about what you will do if a setback occurs. Instead of giving up, how will you get back on that horse? This one is always hard! It’s easy to get discouraged so having a plan ahead of time seems like a really good idea!
Be Kind to Yourself:
If you slip up, don’t give up. Just get back on the path and know that tomorrow is another day. This advice will come in handy on a day that I totally blow it. Instead of just continuing down that path because I blew it, I’ll need to drop my all or nothing attitude!
All right. Enough pontificating! I need to sit down and create some resolutions!
Keep on smiling!
2 days left!
